Today I am pleased and honored to announce the Dreamwalker Leather Family.
In it are three beautiful souls, three huge, warm, beating hearts, three incredible, caring, real, loyal, vibrant, electric women.
And me.
And I love these women. Individually and collectively. Truly and whole-heartedly.
I love sushi_wa for being so sweet and giving and having the brightest smile and for always cheering me up. Always playful, always inquisitive, always stoked about something, always mischievous, impossible to be mad at, our own Irish Yenta; she has the largest heart on the block and I adore her so much.
My dearest sushi_wa, you are the ray of sunshine that not even the stormiest cloud can break; you always brighten my day. I make claim on you.
I love Shidonae for telling me to go to bed, for caring so deeply and always worrying about me and for teaching me so much about myself and about what I am and what I am capable of. Always prepared to kick my ass, she has the wicked-est imagination this side of Oz and is fearless enough to tell a red-blooded sadist (that would be me) her evilest ideas and I treasure her so much.
My dearest Shidonae, every time I see you I hear the howl of kin wolves serenading the full moon; you always soothe me. I make claim on you.
And I love Khandroma for bringing light and sparkles and joy and happiness into my life, showing me what grace under pressure really looks like and that the sweetest heart can also be the strongest and most courageous. Always radiant, always giving, always excited and giggly, her soul wraps around everyone she touches and I cherish her so much.
My dearest Khandroma, you always land in my lap out of nowhere, squealing “Wheeee;” you always show up and you call me to do the same. I make claim on you.
We have chosen to acknowledge the warmth and joy and sharing that is already taking place whenever we talk and laugh and cry together. It is a way for all of us to announce that we care for each other and about each other and that we share the same values. They belong to me and I belong to them. We belong together.
Our leather family does in no way diminish our present and future individual relationships with other people. Rather, it enhances them. If you are in a relationship with one of us, it may help to think of the others as your leather in-laws. We will bug you and be occasional nuisances but in general we are a good-hearted bunch.
And if you knock up one of my girls, I’ll be the one bringing the shotgun and the priest. Heh.
